Duane writes "GDHardware.com has the first review of AMD's upcoming Athlon 64 FX-57 CPU clocked at 2.8GHz. They benchmark it against Intel's current fastest 3.8GHz P4 and the Athlon 64 X2." From the article: "Clocked at 2.8GHz, the FX-57 continues the 'San Diego' core AMD released with the FX-55, but is stepped up a paltry 200MHz faster. What's interesting is that while 200MHz on the Intel side of things doesn't always mean that great of a performance gain, not so with AMD."

I've been playing around with tech toys as long as I can remember, but it all focuses around the desktop environment. Desktop-grade routers, switches and wireless as well as any/all desktop PC (and some Mac) hardware is what I could get my hands on with my limited budget. After looking through hundreds if not thousands of job postings, everyone is looking for 3+ years of network admin experience or 5+ years of C++ experience even for an entry level position. How is one expected to gain that kind of experience when no one will hire you without the experience? What kind of (part-time) work can you get as a college student to gain experience (Cisco, Exchange, SQL, etc) that will be marketable in the real world? Any suggestions from the Slashdot community will be of great benefit to myself and thousands of others who will enter the 'real world' in the next few years."

NaDrew asks: "Fox has seen fit to use two of its worst broadcasters (Joe Buck and the horrid Tim McCarver) for the upcoming World Series. I'd love to just turn down the TV and listen to the Giants' regular broadcast team (Duane Kuiper, Mike Krukow, Jon Miller) on my local Giants affiliate radio station, but as a DirecTV user this doesn't work. Why? Think about it: The radio signal traverses the 20-odd miles from Sutro Tower to my home in Palo Alto in a fraction of a second, but the video signal goes from KTVU's broadcast center in Oakland via satellite to DirecTV's operations center in Boulder, then via satellite again to my home--22,500 miles x 4 bounces equals almost 100,000 miles. Coupled with the MPEG processing done at DirecTV's operations center, this adds up to a delay of about six seconds. What I would like to do is buffer the audio from my radio for the appropriate amount of time and then play it back in sync with the video. Ideally I'd like a software solution that will run under Win32. A Google search yielded some specialized hardware solutions but nothing for my purpose. Ideas, pointers, even 'you idiot it's right here' flames are welcome. Thanks!"

Pig Hogger writes: "According to this National Post story, Ontario small claims judge Beverley Reade is taking Rogers Cable to court, after she failed to get a credit when her Internet connection stopped working for a few days. She asks for either $5800 ($500 for breach of contract, $300 as compensation for her inconvenience & $5000 for punitive damages) OR an apology from cable mogul Ted Rogers himself (like this would ever happen...). The kicker is that, despite being hounded by a collection agency seeking the disputed amount, judge Reade keeps being getting solicited by Rogers marketroids trying to sell her high-speed internet access and cable-TV service..."
